zach was a rainbow puppy
a swimmer, a sniffer, a blue box diver
a humper a thumper a dog
turkey, kale and brown rice eater
evening blanket ravisher
waking everyone up with his five-star, three a.m. fart alarm
don't wait by the shore of your death
whining
as we swim on through our lives.
instead, chase rabbits
through tall grasses alive with chirps,
bound through wildflowers --
puppy breath exalting the warm sweet breezy smell of summer
eyes dancing
tongue lolling
as you jump over the star-fields
and out of sight.
we'll miss your warm body
and comforting cheerful disposition
farewell, zach! thank you!

Nice. And, my consolations! How old was he then?
Thanks for your comments on my blog/s Anna ... What a surprise is this one ! I didn't know about it 'til now.
I hope to get back to you on B.L.
zach belonged to our friends, p and j. he wound up getting a tumour in his hip that ended up putting pressure on his bowels so he couldn't poop any more. while the tumour was checked for over a year by the excellent care of his owners (and awesome naturopathic vet), eventually it became clear that his life was going to deteriorate rapidly when the tumour finally enlarged to the point of cutting off his bowels completely.
on this last day, he was taken down to the beach, one of his favourite places, where he was allowed to do all the forbidden things -- eat as much seaweed as he wanted, chew as many sticks -- then they took him home, sedated him slightly, and their nice vet came over and put him to sleep. he was 11.
